Iran, Qatar sign security pact

Iranian Interior Minister Mostafa Mohammad Najjar and his Qatari counterpart Sheikh Abdulla bin Nasser Al Thani signed a security cooperation pact in Doha on Tuesday.

Najjar stated that the security pact will boost the two countries’ cooperation in the campaigns against illegal drugs, smuggling, forgery, and money laundering.

The Iranian interior minister said Iran has signed security agreements with many regional countries, and Iran and Qatar will set up a committee to implement their security agreement.

The Islamic Republic of Iran insists that regional countries should provide security in the region themselves and is opposed to foreign interference in the Middle East.

Najjar said such security deals will promote peace and friendship among regional nations.

The Qatari interior minister said that the signing of the security pact is an important step for increasing cooperation between Tehran and Doha.

At a press conference after the signing ceremony, Najjar told reporters that the security agreement between Iran and Qatar brings a message of peace and friendship to the region.

He also called the enemies’ threats a joke and said Iran is not afraid at all.

Najjar stated that Iran is cooperating in the area of security with Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Turkey, Syria, and many other countries, and the Islamic Republic pursues a policy of promoting friendship in the region.

However, the Western powers are behind all the insecurity in the region, he added.

In a meeting with Iranian expatriates living in Qatar, Najjar said Iran and Qatar are keen to expand their political, security, and economic relations.
